Introducing the Windmill Garden Project: a distinctive, traditionally styled kitchen designed to harmonise with the architecture of a unique Nottinghamshire home.
Speak To Our Kitchen DesignersOur clients wanted to bring the beauty of the outdoors into their kitchen so, inspired by the renowned landscape gardener Humphry Repton, they selected a rich, deep Invisible Green from Little Greene. Known for his innovative designs, Repton popularised this colour in Georgian times, recommending it for fences and railings to harmonise with surrounding greenery. As landscape designers themselves, our clients wanted a seamless view from their kitchen to their thoughtfully curated garden. They fully embraced Repton’s tone, shaping a view through expansive kitchen windows to the garden. To balance the richness of the green, we paired it with elegant Antique Brass hardware from the Otto range by Hendel & Hendel, along with a patinated brass Quooker Fusion tap. These classic brass accents add warmth and sophistication to the kitchen’s natural feel.
Infusing a vintage aesthetic with a sense of space influenced our client’s decision for the additional elements of their kitchen. The raised legs on both the island and the freestanding pantry create an airy, open look that nods to the windmill’s historic charm both inside and out. While the ample room around the premium Gaggenau appliances gives our client an exemplary culinary experience surrounded by a blooming view.
For the worktop, we selected Verde Peak—a beautifully marbled slab with subtle grey-green veins that flow across a bright white surface to focalise the room. And, with the island and cabinet stained with a warm mid-tone, we continued bringing out the depth of Repton’s green to enhance the traditional aesthetic of our client’s kitchen. Although the kitchen’s L-shape limited space, we still incorporated a pantry as a freestanding piece. It seamlessly fits with the kitchen’s design, providing ample storage, including a dedicated bar area on a cool slab—functional yet full of character, just like the space itself.
"It was a pleasure to work on this project from start to finish, collaborating closely with the client to maintain the unique character of their home and seamlessly integrate the kitchen into its surroundings." Ali - Kitchen DesignerRequest A Cooks & Company Brochure
